When it comes to serving on a school board, lifelong learning is not optional—it is essential. School board members are entrusted with making decisions that affect students, families, educators, and entire communities. To lead effectively, board members must be committed to continuous learning, growth, and staying informed about the challenges and opportunities facing public education.

Education is constantly evolving. New research, instructional strategies, technologies, funding models, and policy changes shape how schools operate and how students learn. School board members who engage in professional development, attend conferences, participate in training opportunities, and study best practices are better equipped to make informed decisions that support student success.

Lifelong learning also strengthens leadership and communication skills. Effective board members must listen to diverse perspectives, build consensus, analyze complex information, and communicate clearly with families, educators, and community stakeholders. Continuous learning helps leaders navigate difficult decisions with transparency, accountability, and a focus on what is best for students.

As a candidate for Charleston County School Board District 4, I believe school board members should model the same commitment to learning that we expect from our students. My work in education advocacy, community engagement, and youth development has taught me that effective leadership requires humility, curiosity, and a willingness to continually learn from educators, families, students, and research.

If elected, I will remain committed to staying informed about evidence-based educational practices, supporting teacher development, analyzing student achievement data, and learning from successful school systems across the country. This commitment aligns with my priorities of supporting and empowering teachers, providing holistic support for families, promoting transparency and accountability, and closing achievement gaps through data-driven solutions.

District 4 deserves leaders who are prepared not only to serve but also to grow.
